THE DIRTY WEEKEND 2017
We’re working on finalising the results. There are a couple of issues to be resolved but they will be posted ASAP.
The Dirty Weekend is over for this year
What a fantastic weekend we had ... despite the weather!
Falkland Trail Runners organised The Dirty Weekend 2017 as a series of three filthy races between Friday 28 July and Sunday 30 July 2017. The first Dirty Weekend took place in 2015, and this year's festival aimed at being better than ever!
Three races had an excellent mixture of flowing trails, some narrow and tight bits, some testing hills ... and the inevitable probability of wet and very muddy feet! The routes used some of our favourite tracks, but also took the runners to parts of Falkland Estate we'd never, EVER, used before.
Nobody who was there will ever forget the monsoon-like conditions. The rain started as the gun went off on the Friday race, and didn't stop until the final race was over. But that didn't deter anyone - even the Saturday evening barbecue went ahead as plaaned, with the live band shletered in the club's marquee, brugers cooked under the shelter of Falkland Cricket Club's fantastic BBQ area, and most of the revellers sitting in comfort in the club lounge!
Here’s what it was like:
The Dusky Maiden Chase
Friday 28 July 7:30pm
Approx 7km with something for everyone! Fast, well-graded downhill for that WHEEE moment, a challenging technical section along a gorge, undulating downhills through trees, a couple of stiles to clamber over, some muddy bits, and a water splash! Plus, where else do you get to run BEHIND a waterfall?
Saturday 29 July 6:30pm
Approx 8km, mostly on well-graded paths, but including some interesting side tracks.
The Blue Brae Polka
Sunday 30 July 2:30pm
Approx 8km with a good mix of established tracks and trails. Some excellent "off-piste" running will add a bit of spice!
silly hilly bits
soggy boggy bits
round abouty bits
squirrelly birly bits
splishy sploshy bits
NEW trails, never before used in any FTR races
LOADS OF OVERALL AND AGE CATEGORY AWARDS
A GOODY BAG FOR EVERY STARTER
A BESPOKE MEDAL FOR EVERY FINISHER
LOTS OF SPOT PRIZES
Entries from just £26 for all three races!
Running is fine, racing is better, but a bun's more fun!
Saturday evening saw the Dirty Barbeque - burgers and buns for everyone. Free for runners and helpers. Cheap as Chips for friends.
Started right after the Saturday race, until 11pm, and included live music.
Shiny Discount Scheme
Loads of the local businesses in Falkland signed up to give runners and helpers discounts during race weekend. This was a great time to get some of the entry fee back on coffee or a snack, a nice gift for a friend - even vintage clothes.
ALL THAT FOR JUST £8 FOR ALL FTR MEMBERS.
